2010 Sound Of Speed Air Show

This weekend’s air show at Rosecrans Memorial Airport was nothing short of impressive as the Blue Angels headlined this amazing event. Like I stated in a prior blog, I was really looking forward to taking my two daughters. I wanted them to feel the same kind of heart pumping excitement that I felt when my own father took me as a child.

Film Festival Schedule

This year’s film festival might seem a little bit different than some from years past. There are no big name guest speakers, or famous directors introducing films.

The sixth annual Griffon International Film Festival begins April 19, and runs through April 23. Selected films from those submitted at withoutabox.com will be shown Monday through Friday each evening from 7pm to 9pm in Hearnes room 102.

“Last year I had a film shown in the festival and I had a great time at all of the presentations,” Baum said. “So I decided to take on a more active role this year.”

Missouri Western State University senior Sara Baum is a convergent media major heavily involved in this year’s film festival. Her more active role this year will be to give a student presentation on famous film maker Kathryn Bigelow. Bigelow recently won picture of the year for her latest film “Hurt Locker”.

Looking Forward To This Weekends Air Show

I remember when I was a child my father took me to Chicago's Air Show to watch the Blue Angels.  I remember being so excited about the days leading up to the show that I could hardly sleep.  Then the morning of the air show my father got me up early and we drove to downtown Chicago.  The streets were packed with more people than I have ever seen in my entire life.  I can still hear the roar of the jets as I watched them do tricks in the sky.  I was utterly amazed.

Tonya the Bartender, Mother, Grandmother and Musician

The room is dark and fogged with smoke. People are gathered around tables talking loudly over music, which is blaring from speakers spread throughout the room. Drinks are served by the dozens as patrons scream out orders in absolutely no orderly fashion. Bottles upon bottles fill the wall behind the bar as the bartender scrambles back and forth trying desperately to keep up with the madness. This is the life of a bartender on any given night no matter the weather.

Terrible or is it?

“Terrible” is very seldom used when describing a night on the town, but here in Saint Joseph, “terrible” means more than a simple adjective used to describe something not so pleasant. This is not your ordinary run of the mill hidden in the desert sort of place. Terrible as it may sound, this place is bursting with excitement and loaded to the brim with people trying their hand with lady luck.
